Down clues have definitions go in the grid but the wordplay is an anagram of the answer.
Across clues have wordplay go in the grid and the def. is their anagram.
Down:
24. Segmented pipe stuck into thorny tree (6) LO?ATE
29. US rankers putting on eastern judo kit (4) EGIS but How?
Ranker = GI, judo kit could be Gie. What is the definition here.
2. Sex aid? A person who's worn out out has six! (6) VIAGRA
Anagrams could be Gravia, Garvia or Garavi but person who is worn out?

Across;
32. Delicate, ingesting odds and ends causing nasty spasms (7) Nictate
Tetanic would be spasms but how do you get Nictate from wordplay?

Thanks.

32 Delicate=nice
Odds and ends=tat
NicE with tat inside nictate
Nictate blink
29 E(astern) + GIs = Egis = anagram of Gies
^^ forget that - it is a down clue, not an across one!

Thanks cashier.
JJ: In the down clues, the definition has to go in the grid. E+ GIS would be word play. So if Judo kit is the definition, then GIES goes in the grid. But EGIS fits in the grid.

24 can be parsed as:
Pipe = Oat, Thorny tree = Bel. so Boatel.
Anagram Lobate. Def. is Segmented which can mean lobe of a leaf.

2. A Rag is a person who is exhausted. AVIRAG? ARVIAG? ARAGVI?

So 29 remains to be explained.
The wordplay in 2d leads to ARAGVI (a river in Georgia).

29d is clearly an error (a down clue masquerading as an across-type clue).
