It should be "Outby" but I don't see the connection with Edinburgh
I assume it's a Scottish word for 'some way off'
Thanks FF - "Outby" is in Collins as a "British" word with the meaning of outside/outlying or outwards so it fits the clue
some way of beyond bounds = out by, away = outby
assuming the "British" word is really a "Scottish/Edinburgh" word!
My mum and dad used the word "outby" regularly to mean some way off. We're Scottish of course!
