Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

I think wasters is used as an anagram indicator and naughty is the extra word?

Vesalius, it was so long ago that I did this crossword, I'd forgotten about any extra words!

I think 'wasters' refers to it being an anagram of 'T are sort of.'

Thank you, dannyk13. That makes sense. I have only identified 11 answers needing treatment but 20d "Lawyers set criminal convictions" and 23d "Tubes from St Albans?" both seem to require the same number as modification.

Do you have a letter pattern for those two clues.

Danny, I don't know if you've seen the thematic stuff involved in this crossword? There's a message involved, which shows how some clues are answered. The wordplay in the clue isn't enough on its own!

Danny, the answer to 20 D is Tenets, beliefs - but only the second half comes from wordplay.
Vesalius, I think there were a couple of double uses.

Danny - yes, I think so. By the time I got to 20 D, I had the message worked out and might not have bothered ticking off the rest!

DANNY13, it seems that "wasters" is the superfluous word in 13d if the cryptic message is to make sense. For 20d and 23d I have "(TEN)ETS" and "S(TEN)T" respectively. Both of these clues seem to be among the twelve that need modification.

In that case the setter must have used naughty as the anagram indicator.

Neveracrossword, that does seem to be the case and there is nothing in the cryptic instruction to preclude it.
