There is a special theme/condition
each clue is really two clues, side by side but not overlapping, the answers to which
are to be entered in the two similarly numbered spaces in the diagram either
side of the central vertical bold line. Either word may be clued first, and the division
is not necessarily marked by punctuation. Solvers must determine which goes
where. The individual clues forming part of each double clue may not make much
sense.

11a Honouring saints, returning Catholic installed sort of crucifix explosive
priest clutching part of scripture sent back (6, 6)
Explosive priest clutching part of scripture sent back = AMATOL. Therefore it is the first bit ending with word "crucifix" that I need an answer for'
I have T _ R _ SS
9d Church offerings; plan (9,9)
One answer = ALTARAGE, therefore I need a word meaning "plan" with the letters
_ R _ _ IGAL
Prodigal comes to mind but I don't see why?

12dKick boxing set crazily imbibing narcotic stuff ergo dizzy with close to
round delivering massive belt? (6, 6)
I have O _ OGEN ( I think orogen, mountain forming by giving the land a massive belt)
and the other part _ _ VATE (I think SAVATE, ie French kick boxing)
But I can't parse either completely, only partly

Many thanks

T-cross
Anag set around ava (alt spelling of kava, a narcotic)
Orogen anag ergo + on (close to)
Lama (priest) + Old Testament
Question Author
Thanks jo - wasn't thinking of a hyphen for T-cross, so not surprised I didn't get it
Ava was not in my dictionary - so thankyou
I had got the ergo bit but thought the round was the O
Many thanks agin
Does that help with 'prodigal, JJ?
Question Author
Thanks again Jo, I had actually parsed amatol already, it was just the T-Cross I couldn't get
Question Author
Yes I now have _ RO _ IGAL
I am sure it is prodigal, I just don't see why!
Question Author
If you are still around Jo, could you also please confirm that Taupie is an alternative spelling of Tawpie ( a clumsy Scottish girl) as my parsing of another answer fits "Taupie". Thanks
It is, JJ. Still puzzled by prodigal..
Chambers has both spellings tawpie/taupie
Question Author
Anyway, assuming it is Prodigal, that has finished it. Many thanks for your help
Question Author
Many thanks also Calibax
You're welcome :-)

Where's TheFrogman when you need him...?
A bit late to the party... but I have PROPOSAL for 9d.
Question Author
Thanks Iminoz - so presumably 16a is Hassar rather than hag + gar, giving the S for Proposal. The I though came from 15a Cruive (Scottish word for a pig sty... although I have to admit I couldn't parse the rest!
The letters will now be CR _ OVE, parsing this "correctly" this time gives CROOVE and I have just looked this up and it is "a variant of "cruive"
many thanks Iminoz - two more mistakes of mine corrected and it is now finished and I am happy with all the parsing! Thankyou
We've had Proposal as a competition word already this year. I know the clue for it will have to incorporate another clue this time, but still...
