Hello roslyn, I've just got back home.
I'm using 'regicide' in a similar way to you - de-king/de-sire ('sire' being defined in Chambers as a ''term of address to a king'')
but I don't see a definition in the clue if 'deking' is the answer, whereas 'want' works ok for 'desire'.

1ac-1dn-18ac-7dn-34dn-30ac-7ac-10dn-31dn-45ac (just swap 1dn/18ac if you want to go with 'deking').
