Discussed here. Though the poster had put the wrong pattern (pattern from another clue) but maybe the pattern is right and ITCH is wrong

LUST would fit the clue, but th V looked right. maybe setter couldn't decide on VICE or LUST and split teh difference. Shame slinkykate never came back on the other thead. I hope mikesnook can tell us where the S comes from

Looks that way. A similar thing happened on another clue posted by both mikesnook and slinkykate , perhaps from the same publication, a few years ago- remmeber the Egor/ogre debate?
