This compiler has made a mockery of the ability to solve a clue on its merit. I do not have internet but reference books, and fail to distinguish between a Tom Basden adaptation or an obscure rock band. Masquerade gives no hint to P- Celtic!! Just one of many examples. there is a vast difference to a puzzle and a cryptic crossword.
I have finished it but there is no knowing how correct my interpretation is. I bought the DT yesterday which was far more enjoying. Merry Xmas to all you brilliant solvers.

sorry it was not p-celtic but Joseph K !!
It wasn't popular with quite a few solvers.

Have a wonderful Christmas.x
It was a brilliant crossword - all that was needed for the initial letter clues was a copy of Chambers dictionary + a brain. My favourite prize crossword for a long time.
diddlydo, not everyone has a Chambers.

Do you have a brain Diddlydo? or just the internet? No need to be rude , its Christmas....
Agreed - this is more irritating than enjoyable.

Just out of curiosity Allan, Answerbank is accessed via an IP (Internet Provider) address, how do you access it without the Internet?

I used to have internet, I-pad, pc and Iphone. No more.
I am now in my late 70's and realised theres more to instant world. I remember using answer bank years ago so thought I would post my comment with the help of my grandchild and his I pad. My brain is much better used these days I think. seasons greeting to all .

Cheers Allan, have a good Christmas.
To OP - yes, I have a brain and 2 copies of Chambers. I didn't need the internet to do the excellent Guardian Prize crossword.
