This compiler has made a mockery of the ability to solve a clue on its merit. I do not have internet but reference books, and fail to distinguish between a Tom Basden adaptation or an obscure rock band. Masquerade gives no hint to P- Celtic!! Just one of many examples. there is a vast difference to a puzzle and a cryptic crossword.
I have finished it but there is no knowing how correct my interpretation is. I bought the DT yesterday which was far more enjoying. Merry Xmas to all you brilliant solvers.
It was a brilliant crossword - all that was needed for the initial letter clues was a copy of Chambers dictionary + a brain. My favourite prize crossword for a long time.

I am now in my late 70's and realised theres more to instant world. I remember using answer bank years ago so thought I would post my comment with the help of my grandchild and his I pad. My brain is much better used these days I think. seasons greeting to all .
