Still struggling, Danny. Brief obviously is a barrister and can also mean a barristers case which might be quoted by police. Initially could mean brief but connecting those together is another matter.
I think it relates to money (coppers). A brief specifies the fees to the barrister. If it is not this I don't know

Brief is 100% correct according to the online checker!
The initial letters of 'quoted coppers' are QC. A Queen's Counsel is a barrister, so QC is a 'barrister, perhaps, in BRIEF', ie 'in this'.
