Hello. I have nearly finished it. In fact I have answers for all the clues but there's a couple I don't really understand why.
16 ac. "press function that's very crowded" "squeeze " fits and meets the press part but the rest?
39 ac "Magnanimous in one's real nature , beset by selfish desire" With the letters I have, "great hearted " fits and that meets the magnanimous part. But I don't get the rest
and, finally
26d. "Naively unsure , but not about about smart muscle smarting." I am sure the answer is "unsuspectingly" and I keep nearly piecing it together: small=s, pec is the muscle, sting but it never quite fits all the bits...

Squeeze is also a crowd

The art surrounded by greed
Unsu = unsure with the 're', about, dropped, s, small, pec, muscle and tingly, smarting, stinging.
Question Author
Thank you. I have never come across squeeze meaning a crowd . is unsuspectingly correct please?
steven
39 Greed, selfish nature, with At Heart, one's real nature, inside.
Yes, Unsuspectingly is correct. A typo crept in to my Great Hearted post - greed = selfish desire(not 'nature').
Unsuspectingly is correct
^^^^ 'at heart' surrounded by 'greed'
Sttevenj, I checked Chambers for you. Squeeze - ...a crowded assembly, so 'function that's very crowded'.

Sorry, too quick! thank you NAC. Now it fits together!. Not sting but tingly..

I am, as always, grateful for the help.
Off soon to meet His Nibs, notwithstanding being a bit embarrassed. SWMBO has made me wear what I call my Andy candy things. long johns? To be dressed in these things is, as I say, embarrassing but she was insistent.

Andy Pandy, not candy. do you remember him?
They'll keep the draughts out ;-)
Glad I could help with those, Steven. Enjoy your evening out... elegantly dressed or not!
Question Author
You are great NAC! and thank you too to Captain2 and Jackdaw 33.

And now thanks to Mamyalynne for the comforting words. Yes they will, but....
I know.life's cruel...
Question Author
Is it "life" or Swmbo?
Well. I'd love to have a word, but that won't happen - you'll soon be your own master - have a good evening.
Thanks Mamyalynne and NAC. It was a great evening after a slightly difficult start. I was a bit late and His Nibs was not best pleased. Blamed it on the "b crossword" and said that he came second. Of course that wasn't true and I apologised and promised it wouldn't happen again. He smiled (what a smile!!!) and said "we'll see". And then he forgave me in the best way possible.... After that we had a great time.

He sounds a character alright Steven.

Glad you had a good night.
Question Author
Thank you, Mamyalynne. He is very much like you in that you both say and do what I need when I need it. If you remember, I was not in the best of moods, because SWMBO had me dressed as Andy Pandy. But, in the end, it didn't matter. He did.
