pirate's fourth child? the answer is obviously KIDD, it cannot possibly be anything else, however i don't understand where the fourth comes in? i don't see pirAte's fourth being an A having anything to do with it. or kidD being the fourth letter of kidd unless DELTA (alpha beta gamma etc) being the fourth letter of kidd has something to do with it? kid is indeed a child but i see no indicator that suggests that delta be added onto the end of kid? would some kind soul enlighten me please? thanks in advance

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.forgive me if I appear dense but isn't that back to front, in the clue, the order is fourth child. so it follows that fourth = Delta comes prior to the child and would give Dkid which makes no sense. for me the clue lacks an indicator such as "goes back" or "returns" or is there something i have failed to pick up? thanks to all of you who have tried to explain. I don't understand the A B & C , thanks again
thank you danny k and mamya, i can see now where this is coming from however it still does not make sense to me, why would anyone associate kid A kid B and kid C with a pirate or pirate's? it appears to be a dreadfully convoluted clue. i would have thought that with an answer to the clue so blindingly obvious the setter could have been a little more subtle, hardly bletchley is it? thanks again to you both for taking the trouble to enlighten this poor soul, much appreciated and apologies for my being so slow to catch on!!
thanks again danny and ellie, i agree that it is indeed very simple, as i mentioned, blindingly obvious, however i still don't thing kid a kid b and kid c are very obvious, where did they come from. i stand by my view that it is very convoluted and not up to the telegraph's usually high standard. in any event i still very much appreciate all the effort that you have put in to make it clearer for me. thanks very much again and kindest regards from an old stickler!
