Sorry for misleading you earlier today, my dreadful eyesight could not tell the difference between 14 down and 16 down, I have now resolved today's crusader crossword .
The clue should have read 16 down Made flat metal keys unacceptable ( 6 and 3 letters ) the answer ironed out. This fits my letter pattern.
