Found the prison but after a long search no idea of the refuge??

Finished the grid early this morning, and have the 15 letters, but after hours I still can't even find the prison!

the prison is in the top right starts in 8d 2nd O ...its 5 then some roman numerals...

Do you have the escapees?

It's the French phrase for the obvious country.

There are two escapees but the route has to be followed to get the correct jumble of letters (there are a couple of alternatives for one of the names).

Yes, professorplum - that bit of slyness had me reading reams of stuff about the actual route taken (all very interesting, but a waste of time).

Hello professor plum no I sadly don't have the escapees. Are they Pat Reid and Airey Neave? Have tried moving left to the 'a' in pomade. I don't understand the instruction to untwine waymarkers.

Brain too slow and I can't multi-task!

start at T go across until you see aT in the bottom row. So you are now on A
From A go up until you see an A in column 1 so you are now at O
From O go across until you see an O in the bottom row so you are now at I
Continue eventually getting TAOINRYEL.........VNEE. Ignore the last E then anagrammise the 20 letters and you should get the 2 aforementioned
