The main problem with CANT is that while 'can.' is given by Chambers as an abbreviation for both cantata and canto, it is not an abbreviation for the word 'tune' itself, nor (unlike AA or CD, say) does it have a separate existence in everyday usage. If 'tune' for CAN were to be accepted, then 'vessel' would be ok for BOT (=bottle) and 'end' for CON (=conclusion).
