13down. Sight in the heavens turns sailor into ferocious person.
Answer is double star.
How does this parse? Presume sailor is tar and double star is a sight in the heavens but I am missing the rest.
Thanks

Double star - 'doubles tar(tar; ferocious person)'
Turns - Doubles
Tar - sailor

Thank you. Lie in king, Chambers gives tar as a transitive verb “to incite to fight”. I can’t find a noun. And what is “turning?”
I still can’t see I get it.

Shoota, what has a ferocious person got to do with it?
Double star (sight in the heavens) - turns 'tar' into ferocious person; 'tar tar' (doubles the sailor)
By "doubling" tar you get tartar, ie double star (heavens thingy) rewritten as doubles tar, turns tar(sailor) into tartar (ferocious person)
Sorry, crossed posts - apologies if my "tartar" (ferocious person) wasn't clear...

Thank you all, especially Lie-in King. I am happy now!
