hi . I'm afraid the Generalist crossword (that I was seeking advice on yesterday) proved too hard for me. I managed quite a lot but I think you need to be a bit more experienced than I am to tackle that one. though I shall have another look next week if I have time. . but I turned to my old favourite, the times jumbo cryptic. I've just finished it but a couple of clues don't quite get there so I'd be grateful, as ever, for help.

I think the answer is " asepsis" (though it could also be "asepses"). That's the germ free bit but why?
