Hello, I am totally stuck on the final clue -

ABANDONED SHIP (its a cryptic crossword from the Highland News dated 16-1-20) - the letters I am SURE of are....

However, there is a possibility the second last E may be incorrect, but I don't think so. I thought it might be DERELICT but it doesn't fit. Interestingly the compiler here is a little squint when it comes to cryptic rules so sometimes I struggle........anyone could help please? it has to be posted tomorrow!

the one with the e that I cannot get is - GO BACK - BUT NOT TO WORK - ?E???E - and I had put in RENEGE....which gave me the E.............any help there please?! I did think derelict was correct!
