4 defeating me this week:

7a "Poor rate for working US detective" (8) O - E - A - O - which may be OPERATOR but why?
6d "Adult gets into highly enjoyable duty" (6) T - R - F - which may be TARIFF but why?
16d "Standard went up by gum" (8) R - S - T - E - (no idea on this one!)
22d "Crib last part of exam and risk no end of reprimand" (6) M - N - E - which may be MANGER but why?

Any help please?

22d last part of exam = m
reprimand = anger
manger
7a It's an anagram of poor rate - 'for working' is the anagram indicator
Adult = A inside TRIFF(short version of terrific) = highly enjoyable
22d Last part of exam - M
risk no end of reprimand is Danger without the D
16d Rosetree (standard rose) - 'rose (went up) gum (tree)'
Sorry - more usually - rose-tree - is it (8) or (4-4) ?

Thanks both.

Bookbinder: I don't see that reprimand = anger, nor that the "no end of" has been used.

Brainiac: does operator = a US detective!
Risk - Danger minus last letter of reprimand
bookbinder said reprimand is danger (warning) rather than anger, I think
Operator/Operative are used for Private Detectives

Thanks all.
I'm happy with TARIFF, MANGER and ROSETREE (yes it was given as 8 not 4,4).
Still puzzling over OPERATOR though!
