Just one clue where I have the answer but don't understand the parsing of the wordplay :-
1) Greek island is attached to kind of fried pastry (6) ?A?O?A. Definition = fried pastry (samosa), Greek island = Samos, but where does the final "a" come from? Logically it should represent "kind of", but I don't see how. It would have been very simple for the clue to read :- "Greek island is attached to a fried pastry", but he chose not to do that. What am I missing?
Many thanks Neveracrossword. Your parsing is faultless but, wouldn't you agree, there is more than a small problem with defining a large rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean as a Greek island?
I can only assume Mr Moorey simply confused himself.
TioMateo, thanks for your understanding! It definitely looks like it should just have been something like 'attached to a kind of...', to get the necessary A.
