The phrase ends (thanks to andY) with the relevant foreign currency.
...ignore his surname.
Any hints on 9d, 28d, 35d?

Thanks.
9d is thematic. Woman "and also known as"

28d is an anagram, about = c

I have filled the grid but I cannot find Andy or the phrase.
You must insert ANDY.
35d - 'GO(b)' + '(b)AD'
Thanks, Prof M. Got it now!
...sorry, hankir - I missed 'hint'!
...what I mean by 'insert' is overwrite 4 letters (making new words). It's on the horizontal.

AH..... i see what you mean now ...thank you very much professorMaisie
Thanks Aldhelm and ProfessorM.
I probably would have asked for more hints anyway, ProfessorM.

9d is a vehicle if I interpreted the hint correctly. How is it a thematic answer. (eat, drink etc.)

I am missing a couple of non-def clues. 15,16, 3d,9d,19d.

There are 2 entries, hankir - the 1st a river 'vehicle', the 2nd poetry.
15 - take 'pun' from Indian servants that fan/or just the 'fans' (leaving 3 letters) + reverse them [+ 'the newspaper' = 'i'].
16 'repair' = proceed from (2 letters) inside the seagoing vessel (minus 'p').
3d 6 letters for 'pointless' minus 'hat'/small part of a roof + 'before' = TO + Nato alphabet for last letter.
19d remove 'me' and (later on in the word) 't' from an 8 letter word for interval/interim - the thematic is viewed for entertainment.
Thanks Professor M.

My bad. I have those 5. Missing not listed in that group.

BTW, No one in India would spell the fan without H.
It would be ????HA.
One last thing - don't guess the food at 38a (there are 2 spellings for an obvious candidate but they're both wrong). The 'townsman' is specific to Cambridge Uni - the 4 letter word is common enough ('posh' connotations). Sorry if you've already got it, but thought I'd better mention it.
OK hankir, and thanks for the spelling tip (I've seen it the proper way, and I agree - the other way just looks wrong).

It looks like you're just missing 38 (see above for that) and the thing to wear 42a - what is the shortest possible 1 letter abbrev for 'answer' (therefore, what do you do - '??? ?').
ProfessorM.
I put down Y as the third letter in 38a.
Tried to google areas in Cambridge to no avail.
