Can't imagine I'm the first to cross the line with this one but after a slowish start it was a pleasant stroll - and delighted that, probably the first time ever, I didn't fall prey to the denouement

You're correct, you weren't the first. Having to start all over again is the product of inexperience. It is best to keep a record of every step of the process, which is not a big chore. If need be, this can be easily reviewed in reverse sequence.
A decent puzzle -- a couple of hours spent with pencil and calculator this evening.

It didn't get massively easier until right at the end where there were several redundant expressions (which were useful as a double check).

Piccadilly, I enjoyed it and, in truth, hope to see more numericals from you.
A couple of little hiccups along the way, but nothing too drastic. If I was creating a puzzle like this, my message would be along the lines of how can a setter come up with something this complex, and with clues which spell out real words or phrases. I couldn't even begin, which is why I'm not trying to set puzzles.
Thanks to Piccadilly.
An even more amazing construction than usual with numericals. I did succumb, but that is one of the enjoyable characteristics of the genre, IMHO. Ploughing through the longer clues once I had found all the letters was the chief downside (especially when a cat was determined to stop me and corrupt my spreadsheet with her random keystrokes)
Ah, so true. Enjoyed the clue construction to start with, and having entered a few letters, chuckled over trying to predict the final grid. Thank you, Piccadilly
Doesn't Piccadilly set with pen, paper and typewriter still? I vaguely recall reading that some time back.

How the hell does someone who's still using slide rules put this together? Masterful, if you ask me.
I think so, jim360... I seem to remember reading the same.

Incredible.
Well, finally got there. Worth the slog. Amazing construction. Thanks, Piccadilli.
