I know, they are just for show and have only really seen them in hotels etc when they just get thrown on the floor, same as those runners that go along the bottom of the bed.
"There is no doubt that decorative throw cushions are essential in increasing the aesthetics of a room. They add colour, character, texture and make a bed look stylish, cosy and inviting.
I have them on our bed. Not particularly for decoration though. I put them beside the bed when I go to bed. I often wake in the night with bad dreams and feel the need to sit up for a while and drink water to calm down. And if I rest during the day I would rather rest on the bed with cushions then on a chair or sofa. I need cushions for comfort and to be comfortable and ease pain. The dog likes them too!
Sometimes I've had a cushion on the bed as extra support when I'm sitting in bed. If it's pretty, I'll leave it on.
Other than that...no.
The runner at the bottom of the bed serves no purpose...it won't even keep your feet warm.
We house sat for a relative before lockdown, and there were four pillows on the bed, fair enough, six cushions in decending sizes, and a runner thingy across the foot of the bed. Effort wasted on me.
We have a light weight fleece at the end of the bed, simply because the dog or one of the cats join us and I don't want them sleeping on the duvet cover. But I make sure the fleece matches the duvet! I love our bedroom, its my retreat and I spend a lot of time in there.
I love cushions on a bed. Probably because I like making funky cushions from left over fabric and bling and they have to go somewhere when I've made them.
Dave hates cushions on a bed. He watched a Dave Gorman programme where Gorman said putting cushions on a bed is about as sensible as putting top hats on the lid of the toilet seat.
On my next trip to the loo I found a very tall pile of hats on the toilet seat... :-(
