Help appreciated please, pretty sure of adjoining letters but I 've been wrong before. Don't discount possibility of regional Cumbrian dialect or words for some answers.

I think they've made an error.
7d clue states 8 letters but grid only allows 5.
The 7d. clue "Vegetarian snacks" in plural would indicate answer to end with letter S'
While I'm sure TALLBOY is correct meaning answer for 7d must end in letter Y.
Answer SEEDY doesn't really make sense for the given clue.

I suspect the wrong indication of 8 letters might mean at some point while compiling the crossword. The setter might have had SEEDBARS as a possible answer before the grid changed not to allow it.

If they have botched the letter count then the clue may also be wrong.
