For each clue, one apposite letter is absent from the wordplay. Clues are listed alphabetically by answer. Answers should be fitted into the numbered grid. Chambers Dictionary is recommended but does not give one commonly used entry.
Answers for the following would be appreciated, thanks!
Situation in court – ten playing against ten (7) : RUCTION
Come to be cuddling a special seal (6) : GASKET
Bill and Dorothy’s dog eaten by eagle – filleted or whole? (4-2-3) : ROAD TO RIO
Fish used to provide these, cryptically – roe upon sea’s surface (9) : CROSSWORD
Heated with heat (6) : HEATED
And the following letters for which I would appreciate the appropriate clue:
?I?D?O???
Matakari, Situation in court... can't be Ruction as it's the fourth clue and the answers are (sigh) in alphabetical order. The same goes for Bill and.. As 'Fish used..' comes after Fiancee (already given some time ago) it can't be Crossword. PS For that one, Fish is a surname.
Matakari, what was your stumbling block, what made you keep ignoring the 'answers are in alphabetical order'? I felt like a nagging wife at times ... and it still didn't work!
Bobbinwales, the instructions say that 'one letter is absent from wordplay'. I can't remember the details for that clue, it was days ago that I did the puzzle.
