Yes, 7d PEASANTS (remove 'm' leaving 'roe' = PEAS).
28 superfast (REP'S for 'reputation' rev +U) remove 'c' giving 'faulty' as anagrind for 'STAF(f)'
5d EXPORT remove 'c' for 'able' EXPeRT
29a yes, CATER is 'old'/archai for 'four' remove the 'c' of [c]old.

There were 10 "C" s in the message .....just remove them from the grid?? (remove carbons)

PP, my 'band' stuff was just an aside. As Roslin said, that gives the number of letters(and the letters she mentioned) to be erased from the grid.
