Good day, I played my cards right with Doc’s offering for this week.
It was a gentle grid fill in record time, and without any requests for
help from the AB. I’m thrilled!

Glad you got there :-)
So am I. Some answers were a bit of a gamble though.
I didn't enjoy that as I don't/didn't know many of the unclued ones. That activity was not allowed at home.
With the exception of 34d, I had a parse for all the answers Krypto.
Glad you got there though :-)
Surely 15,29 was acceptable Tilly ?
I knew all apart from 11a that I had to look up. Some from old crosswords and some through participation. And one from a B&B I stopped in whilst working in Blackpool many years ago (36a) I had no idea what it meant. The owner told me the meaning. It was a favourite of His.
39 was a regular for me and the lads many years ago. Good times :-)

Klazo, what do you think of this parse for 34d?
Think of using a cat to picture the body. ( I
initially thought of CAT scan.)
That doesn't make sense to me mate. Not saying it's not the correct parse. I think it's a straight clue to create confusion in a cryptic crossword.

Ok,I see what you mean here, Klazo. I'll be looking at it again, though.
Thank you, Matakari, for 1A - good hint. Thanks to everyone, but I’m still stuck on 3D About time, ancient stories are often thus REI?L? and 6D Notes about lake-beings, once IA?R?ES.
Faeries - Fas (notes) around Erie (lake)
I wrong in 3down?
Question Author
Perseverer, yes, your I is wrong. It's a form of repetition for stories of the past.
