Good morning, this week’s Spectator has been a smooth, mild solve in record time for me again! Thanks to La Jerezana for a stressless offering! NACW was quite perceptive in stating that this one was “Matakari friendly”! And now, back to Charybdis’ Anthology with much more zest and which I’m not yet ready to abandon!

*Seeking confirmation for the following DOWN answers, thanks!
10 Arsenal take off after start of extra time (5) SCAPE
20 Extremely feminine, up for a bit of poetry ( 4 ) FOOT
21 Our circulation depends on this 12 ( 6. 2 words ) THE SUN

*This one is still eluding me despite the hints offered:
16 Empty attempt to hold one for cuddling – it’s what gorillas do (8 )

*Hints for the last two down clues should facilitate answers for the remaining Across clues:
5 Fish, those not far from soles at Billingsgate ( 4 )
17 Vermin from top half of allotment ( 3 )

20 Yes, Too F, extremely, Too and F, feminine, Up/reversed, Foot, bit of poetry

16 T hugger y.
10 The first too letters are wrong.
21 Yes.

17 A six letter word for 'allotment', share - the first half is the vermin, a very common three letter word.
5 Billingsgate equals Cockneyish, The fish are very slippery.

Glad you got the Spectator one done.

Thanks, NACW, I got the hints except for 10 which is still quite slippery. Those first two letters are puzzling! But I'm going on now to the remaining Across clues.
10 Arsenal take off after start of extra time (5) ??APE
(Start of) Extra and Time
Matakari, glad I could help, glad Klazo could help when you were still struggling.

Klazo, did you have any time to look at this puzzle?
Morning NAC. Yes I did. Wasn't a toughie by far (didn't take too long to complete) But thought it was well constructed and everything parsed 100% which is a big think for me.
I only had one error on completion at 35a (but the preamble sorted that out instantly).
I enjoyed it but would have liked more of a challenge.
*Thing*
Thanks, Klazo - but i think we might be talking at cross-purposes, EV rather than yesterday's Spectator?
Oops, No I didn't. I've cut down on the crosswords a little and my time on here as I was getting nothing done.
Crosswords don't pay the bills :-)
Thanks, Klazo. I know you are often a busy, industrious soul. The EV puzzle was far better and more satisfying than the rather tame (in my view) Spectator one.

PS I believe it's a numbers Listener this week, so I won't even look at it tomorrow!

I’m experiencing some difficulty making sense of several of the Across letters I now have. For me, the preamble is somewhat labyrinthine, but I would like to see how far I can get for my own edification. A confirmation of some of the Down answers would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
1 LIEGEMAN 2 UNMIRY 3 SEISE 4 TROTH 5 EELS 6 STATIC 7 CHASTE 8 AMIABLE 9 PELT †
10 ETAPE 11 CROP 12 NIECE 13 GAMA GRASS 14 ERASE 15 CHARY 24 OMAHA 25 SOAR
All good, I think, except for 12 and 25.
12) Anagram of LADY with a paper in it gives you what you might call the Sunday Telegraph's sister.
25) Word for emergencies with first and last letters cut off yo give synonym for for escalate.
Question Author
Thanks, Rick! With this one, I may not arrive at the end game, but at least
I would like to know that I've got something out of the answers for some of the remaining across clues. I seek hints for the following to help me along these lines, thanks in advance!

* Prejudiced people releasing English pastures for payment
*I dipped into lady’s dresser that is meant to be left
*Cheek shaver
*Press capturing rector in skimpy attire
*Prisoner gives up hostilities only for the theatre
*Long ago fresh pack of hunting dogs set out again
*Angus’s first to enter Glaswegian joint- reluctant he’d say
*Energy fed into lad’s sound unit
1 Prejudiced people... ones who don't like old people or young people, for example, lose the usual English, this will give you 'payments for pasture'.
Cheek shaver, a double definition (and 'shaver' equals a person..)
Press... a crowd of people. A skimpy garmet (undergarment) with the usual Rector inside .
Energy fed... a usual 'Lad's' with the usual Energy inisde, giving you sound units.
I dipped etc. 9 letters. Definition is capable of being inherited. 'I' goes into two words that might describe a lady's dresser.
Prisoner etc. Word for prisoner minus hos(tilities) gives synonym for theatre. 5 letters.
Long ago etc. 5 letters. Double definition - to lay out again / out term for pack of dogs.
