26a TARROCK

That’s all I can help you with as this week’s has puzzle has beaten me too :/
26 The usual three-letter sailor, then a very common four-letter boulder.
4 D Your L is wrong.
28. Yes - Sand = smooth, Dab= expert.
Glad you - eventually - enjoyed the Genius puzzle. It was cleverly done.
35 A rather slang word for dirty, rotten, poor etc loses the usual Conservative, leaving a word meaning 'red'.

Many thanks, FleshpotsOfDevon and NACW! I now have:
35a RUDDY
34a DODOS
27a ASTAIRE
Still looking at 15d and 20d, the latter seems to be an anagram.
Your 27a is wrong. 8 letter word for group of stars, remove R.
15d. Old German is 4 letter ending in H.
20d. Unknown is X, Y or Z. Gunk is three letters, reversed then anagram of E. coli.
Only one I have left is 37a.
37a- think of another term for a pouch, then replace the initial letter with a 'd'.

I still can't get 20d, albeit I can see it's an anagram.
Cancel that- the penny's dropped and I found the word in Chambers.
34a fits with the first two words but how does "dance without it" parse?
Thanks Lancastrian.
Failed to see that Bill is the def.

20d starts with Z. Gunk is goo. Then anagram of ecoli.
And I'm pretty sure 27a is not Astaire
Question Author
Thanks, hankir and LancastrianOik! Are the following correct?
34a - DODOS
35A - RUDDY
And the letters for 15d - A?W???
15d first letter G
No your A is wrong. Should be a G
I think the unclued lightbat 36A is what tennis ball does but if it ends in d then 34 across cant be dodos?
Is 16a reshoe?
On a pump perhaps repair electronic failure to turn (6)?
It's not "reshoe" but you are so nearly right...
I have it thanks with a penultimate L
16a. Failure is a guy who does not win.
36a. Monte Cristo guy with Queen returned.
Have not parsed 34a.
Question Author
Thanks again, all! And could 16a be reheel?
