Enigmatic Variations N0. 1594

Good day, back to the charge with VICINITIES! Not so easy to identify the words in flight! Help would be appreciated for the following, thanks.

(In each clue, one word must take flight before solving, replacing the escapee from the next clue (or first across clue from the last down clue). In clue order, initial letters of these words provide a relevant source and what must be amended to show VICINITIES ( read cryptically), leaving all real words in the grid. Chambers dictionary is recommended. 4dn is in Collins.)

4a Ousting of old side after the setter put notes in order ( 9 ) : ???O????D
10a Mysteriously with happiness, show chart ( 6 ) : ????L?
30a Kill American attendant, first violation in Pleistocene epoch (6. 2 words ) : IC???D
32a Attorney-general involved in vehicle for mangling of language ( 7 ) : ?BU?E??

3d Less interesting motorist’s travel velocity ( 5 ): G?I?R
5d Wait around younger poet ( 6 ) : ????SY
25d The Spanish naval man tracks religious district ( 8 ) : E???E???
27d Most featured element of spike in scope for parts of ear ( 6 ) : ?CAL?E

Matakari, it'll be difficult to give hints on this one, as the thematic stuff means crucial words will be in the clues before those you have listed!

Thanks, Captain2 - in this clue 'elderly' is moved out, it was replaced by xenophobe'... PS Your actual answer is correct.
Ta, NaC - well it relieved the boredom for a minute. ;0)))))
Yes, Captain2, I used to find myself answering Metro crossword queries when I was really at a loose end. The preamble to EV was well-worded, but it was tricky at times, remembering the replacement stuff.
