Good evening, a tricky puzzle to keep me thinking while I await
the Spectator! I’ve got quite a few of the Down clues from which,
I assume, no extra words must be removed like for the 20 across clues.
Some help for the following would be appreciated to see if I’m on the
right track. Thanks in advance!

( Twenty across clues contain an extra word which must be removed before solving. Ten of these extra words contain a particular pattern of letters, with a different example in each. Several more examples of the pattern occur in clue answers. Solvers must introduce eight more examples (ie, different to those in extra words and answers) of the pattern into the perimeter by changing letters in some cells. All resulting new entries are real words, including a comparative form and an abbreviation. )

1a Cafe right out of pickled mushroom spread (7): MO?M???
6a Duke leaving country after one took vulgar picture (6): ?B?S??
16a Base probing sailors' careers (5) : SEAR?
19a Extremely slack Welsh alumni are lost causes (6): ?REA??
19d Amid conflict in grammar school, new threats (8): ?????LA?

15a bijoux is extra so LARI (hidden in clue) for the asian money
15 Think this may be larb. It has to come from the words of the clue. Larb is a Thai spicy salad.
15 Ignore mine sorry.
33a sexy is extra so P(pressure) + senna(racing driver) reversed ...Pannes (fabrics)
45a sealch possibly... from seaRch ...change Right to Left ...a scottish seal??
38d LULU hidden backwards in the clue ...outstanding is the defn
39d ance ...ancLe is the old joint .....long ago is the defn
43a gits from gi(f)ts (geniuses) anecdotes is extra
38d LULU reversed in clue.
39d ANCE ('anc[l]e' is archaic 'ankle' - 'joint', dialect '...ago' = ANCE).
15a LARI - remove 'bijoux' and it's in the remaining clue - currency.
sorry, too late with those.
ProfM...could you explain please how the perimeter words change to match the pattern?
I have 8 words in the perimeter...do they all have to change? Could you give an example please?
Only 6 perimeter words change, tedsgran - 1a + 12d stay the same.
The abbrev goes in 42d - going from 'airs' to A.Q.P.S. (ref thoroughbred horses). So the QP is the significant change (and that's the direction you need the rest to go in).
Thank you profM...will work on those
If only 6 perimeter entries change, how will I have 8 more examples as stated in the preamble....or do some have 2 changes in them?
Yes, two changes in each of 47a and 48a.
...that is, 'two double changes in each...' of course.
Thank you ProfM
Think i'm done now , but I didn't use HG anywhere?
How does 24a work? Jack irritated after losing case to churchgoing jerk.
I have JIGGLE (irritatED the extra??)

Thanks, Roslyn251254 and ProfessorMaisie! Quite amazing stuff, here, which
I just cannot stay away from! I’m trying to get the answers to the clues before
attempting to contemplate the intricacies of the perimeter word change. I’m
left with four clues for which I would appreciate some guidance.

11a Dismal old tenor beginning to snore during ceremony (6) : PRI?T? ( PRIETO )
47a Deliver QR-code signal with reservation (6) : ?AS?UE
9d After estimates retain contractor (5) : T?RES
20d Total panic when Australian out for duck : SCORE
