29 Answers
Good day, I was growing to expect a smooth run through Doc,
but got stumped with three of his clues. Discovered the theme
quite early in the game, though the last three are still eluding me.
Help with the following would be appreciated, thanks in advance!
34a Almost finally having Midwest displayed in these? (7) : ??L?S?S
40a Diners chopped up a tree that is a little stunted (8) : ?UT?A?A?
31d Half of lesson leading Indian fairy (4) : P???

17A: Skilfully handled - after a stroke? (7)
F I E L _ E _
FIELDED? But not sure why...
25A: Jack starts to play up rudely (3)
P _ R
PUR, I'm guessing - the first letters of Play Up Rudely. It reads as though Jack is the definition word, but I can't find a definition of pur to tie in with it, e.g. sailor, knave, etc.
