Maidenlike is an anagram of "I liked name" ??
Question Author
Garrison only 8 letters. Unlikely that garrisons answer either, though a good word.

‘Old hat’ I’m still kicking myself!
^^^ Think another 1984 hit was 'Like a Virgin' so yes to JJ

Gall i poli(ce)
Question Author
The Madonna is brilliant. Been looking at wrong hit.

Gallipoli superb.

Thanks to all.
Could 2 be 'shingle'? It's an anagram of 'English' but in a very convoluted definition (I prefer, 'resorts' but can't see the wordplay for it).
Sorry, see it now - different kind of grit altogether!
