Answer looks like Mali(anagof Mail) but dosn't fit with 28Aanswer Apprentice ? Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

someone else said the same,,,thought to be a setter error again.... but I dont know what the lue was for apprentice. If apprentice is right what letters you got for 27a?

There has been some discussion that it might be a setter's error. Mali looks fine.

Am confused now. Monaghan lòoks right but its not 27a as you say that's Mali.

The Monaghan clue is 27 ACROSS 

The Mali clue is 27 DOWN

The clue for 28ac is 
trainer needs trainers before losing all claims to be a pro (10) 

has all the letters placed to be apprentice only the L in Mali is knocking it, looks like a setters error (again)

I've completed enough to confirm that 28a is definitely "apprentice", unless 4 other clues are incorrect, which isn't likely, leaving -
