Many thanks for the witty hint, bobbinwales! Now, to put this one to rest! I’ve shaded the state of 12 cells in 36a, that leaves me with 14 more cells to shade. How do I determine what to shade? And for my edification, can someone give me the words in the clues for the remaining six letters so graciously provided by NACW? ( N, I, O, N, C, E ) Thanks!
No, this is not possible, I've been staring at this for ever so long, and nothing! My brain must be scorched now...and to think that the answers to most of the clues flowed so nicely...This is not the Chalicea I thought I knew...I'll probably take a breather and come to it, something might happen...
Matakari, I think you have your rose-coloured spetaccles on, you have had gruelling experiences with the last two Chalicea puzzles! (You asked tor help with about 40 superfluous letters in one of them.
I think you are probably over-thinking the endgame, and over-staring. The theme itself is the 'Strauss work', which you'l have as you have filled in the unclued entry. If you look at the grid, you will see there are two five-letter features - ie features of the theme. You simply apply the instruction to that. As for the highlighting... you will want to see the finished article... appropriately coloured.
Thanks, Matakari, the 'two five-letter features' are the same and they are an integral part of.... the structure. If you 'appropriately shade' those and the big long line across one row (including the correct state) you will have 26 cells. And have another look at a picture! Where could you/one possibly add suspension cable?
Good morning, another look at Strauss’s work and an understanding of the two five-letter features reveals one feature in 12d (ONTOWER? ) and the other one? I think I’ll have to put this one aside for some time and come back later with a fresh view.
Going to have a look at the Genius though the superfluous letter aspect is not my bag of tea. Will still be thrilled by discovering some of the answers to the clues and the jigsaw part of it.
