I have solved this puzzle but one clue remains.

There is an extra letter in the wordplay.

32a Good gathering almost swelled after Mauritian rupee follows Euro?

Wordplay gives an extra letter.

The crossers suggest roomful is the answer.

ROO is the 'euro' (a kangaroo) + M[r] (abbrev - 'r' is extra) + FUL(l) = 'swelled' (almost).

Feeling quite proud to have finished this – my first attempt at an Inquisitor or any of the super-intimidating looking crosswords (Azed etc).

Still, there are a few parsings I cannot quite get:

31 One who once lived on charity in Saint Malo confused with king (7)

I have ALMSMAN with an 'O' unused. Is Saint just S? Does king clue 'man'?

21 Glare endessly at guy in America and his timber wolf (4)

I have LOBO with a 'U' unused but I don't know why.

I think 21 uses Lour, glare. Endlessly = drop the R. The Bo is 'guy in US.' The Lobo, timber wolf, means the U becomes the extra letter generated by wordplay.

Rscratz, thanks, glad that helped. Just 'S' for saint is fine, it's confirmed in Chambers. I couldn't find a totally definitive king= man, Chambers has only 'king... a man or other male animal who is pre-eminent among his fellows.'  Other dictionaries may have a definition that makes the clue totally valid.
