My last 4 (if my others are correct!). Please note that this is a thematic crossword and one (maybe two) of the answers need to be input as a real word anagram of the actual answer. The others should need no manipulation.

15a Girl prevents outdated beer bottles being returned (7) possibly - E?NE?LA (not totally sure of the "A")

8d Farthingless bankrupt was indisposed (5) AI??D

The 5th letter of 15a is the 3rd letter of 8d

34a Oil producer's ships circumnavigating earth westwards(4) N?E?

35d Deliberate maltreatment destroying lives (4)

??SE. (the first letter is the last letter of 34a)

In addition help to parse please

These are two thematic answers and so are anagrams of the actual answer.

6d Stop spitting out noodle soup girl = ADENI

The input word is an anagram of Diane(girl) - but the rest

31d Wanting entry, force lock =RESTS

The input word is an anagram of TRESS (lock) - but the rest?

Many thanks - this was by far the hardest EV I have attempted and am glad I got this far without a Chambers!

8d (F)AILED

Question Author

Thanks swarbrules - I am kicking myself now! I had "quailed" removing the qu (another abbreviation for farthing) but didn't think of "F"!!!!

Question Author

Is Ednella a girls name? (ale around lend reversed)

31 S tress would have been the force, wanting entry = the first letter.

Question Author

Thanks NAC - I did wonder if that was the case!

35 Muse, deliberate, verb. Misuse. maltreatment, loses Is, lives.

15 Estella, girl. Lets is an old (outdated) word for Prevents  and Ales is reversed, returned.

JJ, I left 34 as you have another letter now and might have seen the answer quickly...

Question Author

Thanks again NAC presumably 7d is therefore, LaTene rather than Lanete!

Glad I could help, JJ - and yes to La-Tene.

Question Author

Thanks NAC I have the oil producers now and also 4 of the 5 words to be highlighted - just got to find the last!

Thanks, JJ. I thought you were very smart earlier  when you said you had some of the highlighted words - I didn't get round to that until my grid was full!

Question Author

I was lucky NAC I got the two longer unclueds and so guessed the shorter one with only the S in. I then saw an associated answer beginning with B and that made the puzzle a little easier as I spotted three more partially completed examples, giving me letters that I normally wouldn't have got.

Thanks, JJ - I do like hearing how other solvers tackle puzzles. I've often had to work backwards in thematic ones - and am often delighted when a bit of theme-work helps me solve particularly tricky clues.

9d Inquire about Spensers term for adjudicator of poetry (4) KSA?

1a Plants bearing substantial fruit and edible tubers (5) ??CO?

14a Lower case not initially used for chapter in primer (5) ??AS?

17a Prickly shrub's decline in north country of ours (6) ??BB?N

PP, for 27....the usual North, a common three-letter Decline+ a two letter abbreviation for our country.

19 Spenser's term just means the last letter (slightly sneaky, but fair) and a three-letter Inquire. The word can mean an adjudicator of various things.

Thanks...got 1a and 14a now and have corrected 18d...but how does it parse?

Thanks, PP. Did you change the last letter in 17 A, I hadn't noticed you had one wrong?

18 is a slang term in the US for money, that's as far as I got!

A kail is a ninepin (skittle).
