yes a very difficult offerin i thought. I have the two artists and i have the works by them but i am struggling with the beginning of the quote. 

meantime there are some stubborn clues:

I was confused by the need to put 'to' between the two names along the top line. The quote doesn't seem to be online, but I pieced it together bit by bit. Have you got it now, johnpiper?

Boethius, you could have 'to' as the preposition along the top line but the preamble more correctly leads you to 'of'

I had to guess the quote then found it on the internet.  Yes, it was there but it didn't appear when asking for quotes from the speaker.  Strange.

On the top line, I put 'on'. 'Of' seems better, now I about think about it.

Cloverjo, I suggest any preposition such as 'on', 'to' or 'of' would fit the clue but having read the preamble the only logical solution is 'of'. I remain open to conjecture
