14 Albata

24Sipped (Shipped loses the h, hotel)

24 Your U is wrong. People - masses. Pele, football legend, gets Op, wortk.

33 Comose, hairy. Compose, settle, loses the P from the end of 'tramp'.

4 Erases

24 Phantasm, vision. Hants is the county, with A, area inside, and that goes inside PM, what Sunak is.

2 Agorae, marketplaces (the clue should have involved the plural, but it didn't!)

Many thanks, NACW, and one last clue for help!

3d Disguised officer beset by vacuous infighting (5) : ?N???   ( INANE )

And as far as the Unclueds are concerned, I’m not sure I understand the “splitting the atom” aspect. For example, I have the following Unclueds:

13d ??PETU?    - TAPETUM

22d ?MPET?S  -  IMPETUS

What is the catch here? Thanks in advance for enlightening me!

Iapetus

Impetus

a to m

3d. Incog

Glad I could help, Matakari - and glad that teacher1 showed you how to split the atom!

Question Author

Many thanks, teacher1 and NACW, for the guidance! I seek confirmation for the following to wrap this one up!

5d    ALAS
38d  ALMS

1a     SAI?E?
45a  ?M?SER

8d     DIABLE
30d   DIMBLE

17a   PRO?S
39a   P?IMS

25a   TERAS
26a   TERMS

Matakari, if you followed teacher1's  instruction, you'd be changing the As to Ts.  Your entries for 5/38, 8/30 and 25/26 are correct. Your other two don't look right, I'll check and get back to you.

Matakari - 1,45 - Sailed, Smiled. 17, 39 - Proas, Proms. (I don't know where your errant letters came from, but I hope they're easy to fix!)

Question Author

Many thanks again, NACW, it’s all fixed now. I did complete the old set of puzzles for which I got much help. I enjoyed this week’s Chalicea as the clues were very Matakari-friendly. I had a regrettable lapse on only one clue. But I’ll be back for some help on the instructions and the 20 cells to shade.

Thanks, Matakari. I'm very impressed that you got those puzzles finished - you seemed to be really struggling, and didn't get back to us! Your successes there should inspire you to persevere with Chalicea's EV. Some of the hidden words are tricky, but quite a few are reasonably easily found. The instructions themselves are fairly straightforward.

Question Author

Thanks, NACW, I'll persevere with this section of the EV.
