The third letter A should have been a Y as you suggested. The question I went wrong on was Early 19th slang for 'tobacco' (5) and I had put 'bacca' instead of 'baccy'.
I had spent hours trying to work it out so thanks for your help. Bill

The answers to 7a was 'divvy' and the answer to 1 Down was 'middlin'.
Hope you can understand now how hard it was to understand and I do appreciate your time and effort in helping me a beginner in this difficult crossword in The Dalesman magazine. Bill
