Here's a summary of the key details:

I am looking forward to week 2 of the series.
I miss Eggheads, I believe it ended in 2021?
Sad to hear Egghead Chris Hughes has died.

I will use this thread to say I'm back, Chess
on TV tempted me back plus Jeopardy! S2!!

So, things seem pretty much the same as
when I was last on AB, apart from we now
have Trump v2.0, + Elon Musk and friends..
the USA on a path worse than Brexit.. WW3
imminent, The New World Order upon us..
it's a good time to take solace in quizzing! ;O)

I love Stephen Fry, so I watched an episode of this programme. It's terrible. Why did he leave QI only to go onto this pile of paff?

Don't get me started on Trump and Musk!

He only took the gig after plans for a UK version of House, working title 'Semi', were shelved.

He left QI not long after he got married, he disappeared from film and tv for a while.

I like Stephen Fry but I don't like Jeopardy so I won't be watching.

Some things just don't survive the move across the Atlantic - this is one of them

I don't see the point of answering the question in the form of a question.  I find it irritating.

The only quiz shows on TV that I watch are University Challenge (I like the fact that it's been speeded up now Amol Rajan is at the helm) and Only Connect - but only once I've muted VCM's toe curling 'funny' introductions.

I agree with you Naomi, it really is irritating and serves no purpose. On the topic of quizzes, does anyone remember Think Tank broadcast by BBC1 in 2016? I've just watched an episode on Virgin Media 2 and found it really slow and boring

This is the third go at it in the UK on mainstream TV. First C4, 2 series 1983-84, 25 episodes; ITV, 3 series 1990-93, 125 episodes.

Sky One also ran it, 1996, 135 episodes.

The programme commissioners must think there's an appetite for it. I can't recall watching it

So I'm the OP and by all accounts the defender of this fantastic quiz show, the format is to me simply excellent, plus Stephen Fry as the host shines, I could watch Jeopardy! all day. The unique (I assume) way of answering a question with a question is great, I love it. Above all what I find is attractive about the show is the sheer speed and number of questions in the time available. I really enjoy quizzing, I compete online at a high level (limited to UK only) and find having so many questions a bonus when I set my own online quizzes for friends and family.

I give it 10 out of 10, I would give it 11 or more if that was possible. The fact that the winner carries on to defend their title I find is very interesting, the contestants strategy for gaining an advantage and for winning I find is fascinating.

As an aside, I also enjoy The Chase, University Challenge, Only Connect, The Weakest Link, Richard Osmonds House of Games and Mastermind. My least favourite ingredient is the slowness, I am not able to wait, I prefer the constant pressure of 'speed answering'.

Yes, as for Trump and Musk they can go and play tiddlywinks in the corner like good little boys, leave the Chess to the super clever intelligent people, naomi24 I may not agree with you on most things, including your dislike of Jeopardy! BUT when it comes to chess I have you to thank for being brave and logging back in here on AB, to receive constant abuse and put down remarks is just SO enjoyable! :O)
