It's good to see that the police have detained people in the wake of the terrorist incidents in London and Glasgow. Naturally the papers have been full of reports about people's safety in Britain. Do you feel less safe today, in particular since the start of the 'war on terror'? Is terrorism really a big threat, or should the government be focussing on knife crime, drugs etc instead? Do any of you people outside of Britain see it as an unsafe place?

What I cannot understand is why they hosed that bomber down in Glasgow with water. Surely somebody must have had a can of petrol.
I dont think that Britain is a very safe place - i certainly dont feel safe at them moment!!!
But then I cant think of anywhere that is totally safe....
Britain is a safe place, get it into perspective, just carry on with your normal lives, never let these people stop you doing what you want to do, if you stay indoors and never go out, they win, they will never stop me living my life, when my time is up it is up nothing I can do about it, in the meantime I will go on holiday, visit my family in London etc.
We have freedom and a high quality of living compared to most of the world. It's as safe as anywhere to be really, although you might want to take a trip to Scandanavia for ultimate safety.

I certainly feel safe, and I live in London, ride the tube, live near Canary Wharf, visit popular places and so on. I've never been mugged, assaulted, or robbed in my 27 years. I may be lucky, but I believe that on the whole these events are pretty rare

i feel as safe as i ever did
You cant let fear get in the way of living. Well, you shouldnt do at least.

Not a day goes by where I sit on the Central Line, several feet blow street level and consider how easy it would be for something to happen such as the July 07 incidents you cant sit there and worry about it, otherwise you would never travel on the underground and I would probably lose my job.

Only this afternoon whilst walking through Victoria station, although with heavy police presence I notice that should someone who was determined enough it would be remarkably easy to create a catastrophe.

Other things such as general safety on the street can be dealt with by simple common sense, such as avoiding certain areas or not going to certain places at night unless really necessary.

But to live in fear, its just not British.
I feel just as safe now as I always have.

As others have said (and very well done, too) live your lives, people :o)
I grew up in London and I always felt more fear walking around my local area at ungodly hours than I ever did about terrorist attacks. Now I don't live in London anymore but I'd still be more concerned about me walking home after half eleven through the local estate (it's a short cut) than a random attack.

I just don't really think about it. I guess I've always just figured that statistically I'm more likely to get mugged or run over than blown up. Even with the current events I still think that's the case.

(Incidently, I don't think this question is in the right topic, can I report it? ;0P )
Yeah, safe enough. Note to self. Raise his life insurance. :-)
boy, that CAPITAL LETTER topic really leaps out at you from the recent posts pod, doesn't it... STOP SHOUTING... yes, I feel perfectly safe. What is alarming is that a handful of complete incompetents who could only manage to set their hair on fire have managed to create as much fear and chaos all around as if they'd actually blown up parliament. It doesn't take much.
I don't really worry about it in this small town , the main worry here is to remember to lock up all day and try not to go out at night.
I have a concern myself today though , I have to have a heart moniter fitted at the hosp this arfternoon and as I will be wired up and carrying the monitor recorder and battery pack on a belt round my waist I hope I am not mistaken for someone dangerous .I shall be getting home as quick as I can.
My feelings in my own environment are different to those in a strange place where i may be alone and separated from my family. I feel different then, any kind of change can unnerve me, being somewhere like a large city and being alone on public transport where i do not know the area adds to my level of insecurity. I think actually it is a self preservation thing, take me out of my familiar comfort zone and I am agitated.

I have a gut feeling sometimes that staying at home is the right thing to do, despite all the fuss i made about not getting to fly out to Spain last Friday morning, in hind sight, which we have to all agree is a wonderful thing, I would rather be safely at home debating the issues of terrorist attacks on here than contemplating a flight home from Jerez airport into Manchester this coming Friday afternoon.
i'm more concerned with getting home safely after i've been working at night then i am with terrorist attacks. I had to run the chav guantlet the other night and that wasn't fun!
Well I live in a small sleepy village close to a small quiet town that can get a bit feisty at night when the pubs kick out but I never feel a threat to my safety or have any concerns.

I could never live in a city though!! I visited Derby Hospital (237 miles away, thank god!!) yesterday to see about an operation on my hand, Oh my God what a slum!!!! I'm not sure I would feel so safe there!!!

cont....

It would be interesting to see the percentage of people injured in this country by terrorists just to put things in perspective.
another cont.... when I say a slum I mean Derby not the Hospital, the hospital seems fine!! just way to many foreigners there for my liking!!! especially in the light of recent events with Dr's being involved in bombings etc!!

I'm sure I will survive, I wont be loosing any sleep over it!!!

Depends where i go whether or not i feel safe.
I wouldn't put my life on hold for the ar$eholes that try and blow us up..

Why don't they blow their own country up!!!
