Lay,Low - but why????

I can see if you lay low you are off the radar, but the tense is wrong.should be laid low
Is there a Fell (Mountain) called laylo?

No, lay can be past tense too, eg He lay low for the whole of the Summer last year

To fell (verb) = to lay low
He lay low = he kept out of sight

You're confusing two verbs: to lay and to lie; and also two parts of speech: simple past and the past participle.
