For horsepower through wood: R?D? - Answer most likely 'ride' or 'rode' but I can't for the life of me figure out where "through wood" factors in. Any suggestions?

I thought of RODS - there are rods in a car engine ( I think ) - and rod meaning " a long thin implement made of metal or wood "

Just a thought

Finally gave up and checked it by text message - solution is ride - best connection I can find is 'ride' or 'riding' as an archaic usage for a path - often through through woodlands - thanks for your suggestion
I've just found this in Chambers

Ride - a road for horse riding especially one through a wood.

So - it's right - we just didn't get it !
