Can't be anything else andrew, but I didn't get the wordplay either. 'Lit up' can't be part of it as it's an across clue.
16a:

Cor = a Hebrew measure, the homer
Til = lit up (this device is not restricted to down clues)
i = in

34d:

Strip showing designer's name = Label, which is a cyclical variation of Bella
That's nearer the mark cruci', but I think that's a somewhat obtuse reference in the context of what was an otherwise fair and enjoyable puzzle.

Thanks.

I've always believed that anagrams of words that are not in the clue i.e label is wrong; so I don't like Bella. Also,although I can see CORTILI now, I agree with greyfox that LIT up in an across clue is also wrong.
Paul
This clue has definitions to two 5-letter words (BELLA and LABEL) separated by cycling to indicate not that they are merely anagrams (cycling is not strictly an anagrind, recyling is) but that they are cyclical variations (BELLA --> ABELL --> LABEL). Only cross-checking determines whether BELLA or LABEL is the correct answer.
