Cheroot
Question Author
thanks Big Mac i dont quite understand

manila is a cheroot but "which Spanish applaud"?
Che is Italian for which - could it also be Spanish ?

"Che" is a short and familiar form for the name "Jos" in many spanish-speaking places. Apart from that, it means something like "hey you"!
Cruciverbali is right about che being Italian for which, and I bow to Samurite's knowledge of Spanish idiom.

My working out was that a Manila is a type of cheroot and to root for someone is to support, which could include applaud.

But I'm not happy about the clue. If it had said Italian rather than Spanish I think it would have been clearer.

Hope this helps.
