It's probably my favourite crossword of the week. Somewhere, in difficulty terms, between Azed and the Listener(which remains consistently out of my reach).

I agree, though I'm determined I will do the Listener one day! This particular Spectator puzzle is easy enough to get into, but then I ground to a halt... let's see what the morning brings!

I took me (almost) until Lent to do it, but I have finally finished!

No problems with the contiguous group (other than 1a) but had to back-decode 10d, 17a and 37a from the highlighted answer.

I think that's about the toughest of these I've completed.
