To any EV solver!

I am undertaking the statistics for the Telegraph EV. This is because several people find the timeframe until submission too short and in my opinion there have been some crosswords harder than the listener. It would be interesting to see these statistics and depending on the results may influence this timeframe.

I could never reach the echelon of J Green and it must be stressed I don't submit the EV and never will do. So I have no interest other than seeing how we fare.

E-mail a scanned copy/reconstructed typed grid or a list of the answers with the info of the required theme to [email protected] by 6pm on the Wednesday after the EV (i.e. last post). However please e-mail me whenever you have finished as they will be invaluable to the statistics.

Just use any alias and not your name (if you don't want to) or home address. As we generally do with the listener threads � hints and tips only on the threads. Comments are most welcome and I will copy this every week, so spread the word.

Thanks for that Midazolam.
Very frustratingly, although I received a copy of the question papers and mark scheme today no scripts arrived. If I can do some of this now and try to finish it tomorrow I'll be happy because once ParcelForce arrives on Monday that's me divorced from crossords for a while.

An easy (relatively) grid to complete this week., but it took a little while to find the ten clues to make up the word required for below the grid. Satisfying when it all clicked into place though.

As I am no where near the standard of many of the fans of the EV, I find the new submission date far too early for my feeble attempts. When the closing date was the Monday following I could manage to submit about 60% of them, now unfortunately, it is about 'once a flood'!

Just a thought, how do you all cotton on to the enigma so quickly? I have done quite a few clues but haven't the faintest idea about the headwords of the title and some weighty clues wouldn't gop amiss!

41d abbreviation for scripture instruction plus abbr. for pages

Should have said before. Totally agree about the time frame and always felt that 8 days was just right.
Even when it was brought forward to Friday it wasn't too bad but Thursday can mean a bit of a struggle -- to say the least.
Also, the three Sunday Telegraph crosswords seem to be the only ones where there is just one prize per puzzle, not that I ever expect to win. That it a comparatively new ( last 15 months or so ) innovation.
As far as this week's is concerned I agree with Ulysses 100. I often find that the more complex the instructions are the "easier" it is to solve, and vice versa

Many thanks for the guides to the clues, had managed to do most of the bottom half and the right-hand side, but the top left is definately 'straining the brain'. Am still totally confused by the enigma. I have W as a misprint in 39a, 42ac & 37d - is this right? Will now plod on with your welcome hints.

Yes Novalis, the DT & ST have got very mean with their crossword prizes and they have no excuse as so many people buy their paper!!

I'm all for more smaller prizes so more people can get excited by a win!

A query about this link. Can I submit a completed grid from this link or do I need to use the one out of the paper?

Think you need to use the one from the paper. Sure others will confirm or otherwise.

I'm not certain but believe you need either the one from the paper or the one from the Telegraph Crossword Society, which comes up differently from the grid you've copied. I don't know if they check 'crossword society' entries to see if you're a paid-up member or not. The Telegraph, along with being mean about the prizes, and short on time for EV, is very fussy about which entries it will accept.

long time no post. I have been attempting EV again in the last cople of weeks but have been v. busy sleeping in all available spare time at weekends and evenings. Am expecting my first baby, due in 21 weeks, and my brain has undergone some changes!

Hope everyone is well. Novalis, hope your exam script reading is going well - we're into the last part of the academic year now at school and things have calmed down since the exam classes left!

With the above tips in mind, hope to complete this week!
