Daily Telegraph - Cryptic Crossword

Is it true that the DT cryptic crossword gets progressively harder each day up until Friday and then reverts back to moderately easy on Saturday for the Prize Crossword?
I just find that by about thursday I'm really struggling to get anywhere with it, and the clues seem to get a lot looser and more obscure. Does anyone else notice this?
Also... Does anyone know of a "glossary" of terms for the Telegraph (or any other cryptic crossword for that matter) whereby words and phrases that crop up quite frequently such as "sailor" (sometimes = TAR) and "hospital ward" (e.g. = ENT) are defined???
Thanks.
