Are these cryptic clues as ?r? ??????e could be "pre emptive" as in a bidding term in bridge, ie to limit your opponents options during the bidding process.

Thank you for the suggestion. Some are cryptic clues & some are proper names. They are all mixed up just to make the whole thing more difficult!

Hi again DSJ! I'm pretty sure ???EY is "Arthur ASKEY". Reason:- Securing "AS" (to) - KEY (access etc).
Although could be completely wrong lol.
