32a Do ring after large number held in Jerusalem? (6)
T?N?TO (I have TENUTO which is a musical term meaning sustained and I'm guesing that "Jerusalem" refers to the hymn rather than the city but I need more explanation to feel confident.)

do = ut ( a syllable representing the first note in the scale) + ring = o after ten (large number) and I agree it refers to the hymn and the way it is played
Perhaps the wordplay is
Do=ut
ring=o..
after large number=ten
the whole meaning the musical term "held" as you have said in the hymn Jerusalem.

Thanks slanet and JMR27.
I had a feeling I was right but until it's fully explained it's just annoying
I'm sorry, this guy's supposed to set "the hardest crosswrods there are" but that clue is dreadful.

10 is a number, yes, but a large one? i don't think so.
If it is is 9 a large number? i mean it's only one less.

And shouldn't it be "in Jerusalem, for example"
The clue gives the solver to expect that there is something specific about Jerusalem rather than an enormous group of which jerusalem is just one.
On that basis he could have used the name of just about any choral piece!

I'm unimpressed
But I can see why the song doesn't start:

"Ut, a deer, a female deer,"
