Thanks all. Really sorry but I don't understand how bet =bank and I don't see how oking (ie giving the ok to ) fits the clue .

To pass is to OK . Thus passing is OKing . O is the close of gazebo and a king powerful in game of draughts .

Oh dear I just never thought of the game of draughts, I thought of a windy draught -and I compounded it by not thinking of passing as oking -I thought of passing through.
